New Water Line Assures Adequate Water Supply in the
Future
Startex Jackson Wellford Duncan Water District will begin construction
of a new water line to bring “raw” or “untreated” water
from the North Tyger River to the water filtration plant at the Middle
Tyger River in Lyman. This additional water source will assure
an adequate supply of water for the community to accommodate future
growth and help mitigate the effects of drought.
Water Line Facts:
- Water line will transport water from the North Tyger River to
the Middle Tyger Water Filtration Plant.
- Water will be pumped from the North Tyger Reservoir, with additional
water storage in Lake Cooley, both located on the North Tyger River.
- Water line will be twenty-four inches in diameter, and four and
one half miles long.
- Construction will begin in April 2005 and take approximately
six months to complete.
- Water line will be constructed from the North Tyger River along
Highway 29 and Old Spartanburg Highway towards Lyman, and then
cross undeveloped areas to the Water Filtration Plant on Groce
Road.
- Water source will provide up to nine millions gallons of water
per day during drought conditions, in addition to the fourteen
million gallons per day that can be withdrawn from the Middle Tyger
River.
- A pump building with two pumps will be constructed at the existing
intake on the North Tyger Reservoir.
- In the future, additional pumps can be added to the North Tyger
Reservoir to increase the water supply as needed.
- Project is being constructed by Goodwater Construction, Inc.
of Greenville.
- Project cost is $2.9 million dollars, and will be funded through
General Obligation Bonds.
- Existing water service will not be affected by this construction.
- There may be some short-term traffic interruptions during construction. Work
sites will be well-marked, and manned by professional traffic safety
coordinators.
- SJWD Water District asks that drivers use caution when traveling
through construction work zones.
