SJWD 101: Our Engineering Team
By: Fatima Contreras | 0 Comment
July 1, 2026 – Since 1956, SJWD has proudly served Western Spartanburg County with a commitment to excellence, innovation, and responsible stewardship of our natural resources. Behind every gallon we deliver is a dedicated team of engineers working to design, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that keeps water flowing to homes, businesses, schools, and industries. The engineering department at SJWD combines technical expertise, sound business practices, and emerging technologies to ensure today’s water system is prepared for tomorrow’s needs.
One of the essential responsibilities of our engineers is protecting vital infrastructure. They work closely with operations and our treatment plant to monitor water quality and evaluate system performance, which helps SJWD continue to meet or exceed state and federal drinking water standards. Their work plays a key role in ensuring the water delivered to our homes and businesses remains safe, reliable, and ready when our community needs it.
The engineering department at SJWD is also responsible for planning for future growth. As communities expand and infrastructure ages, careful planning is required to ensure that water systems can continue to meet rising demand due to population growth. Through data analysis, project design, and long-term planning, our engineers help identify solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.
The work of our engineers often takes place behind the scenes, but their impact is visible throughout the community. Reliable water service supports public health, economic development, fire protection, recreation, and overall quality of life. Every project, inspection, and improvement contributes to a stronger and more resilient water system.
