Established in 1956, SJWD Water District is one of the original public utility companies in Spartanburg County, providing water services to over 87,000 residents in one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing regions. Initially serving the mill towns of Startex, Jackson, Wellford, and Duncan, one of SJWD’s founding principles has been a strong focus on the smaller communities within our operating region. Lead & Copper The Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), implemented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aim to reduce lead and copper levels in drinking water. PFAS Statement On April 10, 2024, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) formally released new national drinking water standards for six types of manufactured Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) chemicals that may be found in drinking water. Share The Water SJWD is proud to partner with the Middle Tyger Community Center in our Share the Water campaign. We recognize the financial hardships faced by some of our customers and have established a customer assistance program to provide temporary financial support to individuals and their families in our service area.
